KAKIZOME 2014
The 2014's first major winter storm was on its way to the North East and nobody doubted it would directly hit our area, so I could hardly believe that the brilliant sunshine came out of a break on Saturday. More than twenty minutes before the opening time, the first group of people came in, and then almost immediately the Parlor was packed with the guests. I recognized some of them from the last KAKIZOME in 2013. There always more guests were waiting their turn just outside the room. Surprise ! Incredible ! Amazing ! Exciting !
The brushes were running out, and we sometimes found ourselves forgotten how to spell Kanji. Our staffs hardly had time to sit down - moving around from table to table and welcoming the new guests. But it was heart-warming to see small children with their mother having fun probably the first experience of " Oshuji (calligraphy)" , Everybody was really enjoying the KAKIZOME, the first Writing of the Year. Accordingly, there were more than 60 people came !. It was a great success and rewarding.
I thank again to Polly-san and Arts Mid-Hudson for their enormous support to this event and to our volunteers who have done wonderful jobs again this time.

書初め 2014
今年2014年最初の冬嵐が、この北東部へ向かっていました。ここMid-Hudson 地域が
直接その影響を受ける事を誰しも疑わなかったので、当日の土曜日の朝になって輝かしい太陽が雲間から顔を出したのは信じられませんでした。
会場にはおよそ20分も前からお客様の第一陣が到着し、瞬く間に会場のパーラーは
満席になってしまいました。私は昨年の書初めに来られた何人かのお客様の懐かしいお顔を見つけました。そして常に何人かのお客様には、部屋の外で順番を待って頂く有様でした。全く驚きです！予想外でした！嬉しかったですね！びっくりしました！
習字の筆が足りなくなりました。またボランティアの私達でさえ、漢字を直ぐには思い出せないくらい色々なアイデアがお客様から飛び出してきました。ボランティアの方々は、お客様の間を動き回り、新しいお客様を迎え、まったく座る間もありませんでした。
お母さんに連れられた小さなお子さんが、恐らく始めての経験でしょう、お習字を楽しんでいる姿は心温まるものがありました。実に60余名のお客様になりましたが、来られた皆様が間違いなく今年の“書初め”を楽しんで下さった事は疑う余地は有りません。 | |
