| | We've been visiting Mrs. Salvas's 3rd grade class for 8 years since 2008. It is indeed such an honor to be invited so many years.... This year, there are 15 students in her class, much less than the past. When you talk about characteristic of the 3rd grade kids, calmness and quietness are the last thing you may expect from them, but we found these kids were surprisingly very much like that. We met a Japanese student, Nico-chan, whose mother also came to the class to help us.
Our program started with Introduction of Japan by Machiko-san. It was supposed to be for 10 minutes but my camera got jammed and that forced Machiko-san to continue talking and talking... Great job, Machiko-san! For Calligraphy, Akiko-san was again kind enough to prepare a sample of "Spring Day (Haru-no Hi)" in both Kanji and Hiragana along with the student's names in Katakana. Thanks to Keiko-san who became our regular volunteer who now helps us for both calligraphy and origami. This time Origami was lead by Yamato-san, Machiko-san and Hiroko-san. Initially we planned to teach kids several different forms of origami but ended up with Jumping Frog games. I guess we have waken the true nature of the 3rd grade kids - they prefer excitement to quietness. Our program ended with Kamishibai paper theater for which Machiko-san helped me as an assistant while I read "Hanasaka Ji-san" story. We look forward to seeing Mrs. Salvas and her next 3rd grade students in 2016. Thank you, Mrs. Salvas.
Today's program was Hiroko-san's last volunteer work as Ishida-san family is going back to Japan at the end of July. Hiroko-san, Shotaro-san and Mizuki-chan were such a great help to us who didn't hesitate to offer us their volunteer work immediately after they came from Japan last year. It was such a wonderful memory working with them, especially having seen Mizuki-chan teaching kids Origami in English. We will certainly miss them, not just their volunteer work but also their smile and friendship. We will never forget what we have done together. We hope they will tell people in Japan what we've been doing to keep our cultural bridge to be connected between Japan and here Mid-Hudson Valley community. And, we sincerely hope we would see them again in the future. Thank you so much, we will miss you!

ｻﾙﾊﾞｽ先生の3年生のｸﾗｽを訪問するのは2008年以来これで8回目です。こんなに長い間毎年招待を受けるというのは本当に光栄なことだと思います。今年はいつもの年より少ない15名の生徒さんで、小学校3年生の子供を想像する時には静かさと落ち着きというのは普通思いつかないですが、この生徒さん達はまさしくその異例でした。その中に日本人生徒のﾆｺちゃんがいてお母さんも手伝いに来てくださいました。
ﾌﾟﾛｸﾞﾗﾑは真知子さんによる日本の紹介から始まり、本来であれば10分で終わる予定がカメラがどうしても動かなくなってしまってその間真知子さんに延々と話を続けてもらうはめになってしまいました。真知子さんご協力有難う！習字用には章子さんにまたまたｻﾝﾌﾟﾙをお願いして、漢字とひらがなで｢春の日｣、それから各生徒の名前をカタカナで用意して頂きました。圭子さんはすっかりﾚｷﾞｭﾗｰのﾎﾞﾗﾝﾃｨｱになって下さって、今では習字と折り紙を手伝ってもらえるので本当に助かります。今日の折り紙は大和さん、真知子さんと弘子さんにリードしてもらって、最初はいろいろな折り紙を教える予定でしたが結局飛びｶｴﾙ競争になりました。どうやら3年生の(静けさよりもお騒ぎ)本性を起こしてしまったようです。今日のﾌﾟﾛｸﾞﾗﾑの最後は真知子さんにｱｼｽﾀﾝﾄをお願いして｢花咲か爺さん｣の紙芝居で閉めくくりました。来年度またｻﾙﾊﾞｽ先生と3学年の生徒さんにお会いする日を楽しみにしています。ｻﾙﾊﾞｽ先生有難うございました。
この7月末に石田さんﾌｧﾐﾘｰは日本に帰国されることになった為今日のﾌﾟﾛｸﾞﾗﾑが弘子さんにﾎﾞﾗﾝﾃｨｱとしてお手伝いしてもらう最後となりました。昨年日本からいらした直後から弘子さん、昌太郎さんと瑞貴ちゃんにはいろいろとﾎﾞﾗﾝﾃｨｱとして参加して頂いて大変助かりました。特に瑞貴ちゃんが他のﾛｰｶﾙの子供達に英語で折り紙を教えている姿は本当に楽しい思い出となりました。お手伝いして頂いたということだけでなく3人の笑顔と友情は掛替えのないもので、いっしょに記念になることが出来たということを決して忘れないでおきます。ぜひ日本に帰ってからあちらの皆さんに私たちが一生懸命日本とﾊﾄﾞｿﾝﾊﾞﾚｰ地域の住民との間の文化のつながりを守って頑張っていることをお伝え下さい。ぜひぜひまた将来再会出来ることを願っています。瑞貴ちゃん、弘子さん、昌太郎さん、お元気で！本当に有難う!!！
