| | As previously announced, our annual meeting is now held in Spring. Today, we reported our 2014's financial numbers to the members. Thanks to Atsuko-san, the Treasurer, for her effort in putting these numbers together accurately.
There were 34 people including 4 guests came today and enjoyed makunouchi-bento lunch box we had specially ordered to a Japanese restaurant located in Palisades Center just to make today's event a little different. It was nice to have some members who we usually don't get to see often. Mini-market called "Garakuta shop" by Chikako-san were filled with her special Garakutas and other staff from Motoko-san's garage all of which could be someone else's treasure. Many thanks to both for their generous donation from their sales. Rosemarie-san also brought some Kimonos to donate. Thank you, Rosemarie.
This is the 2nd time we tried Mini-workshop tables with Tea Ceremony, Flower Arrangement, Calligraphy, Tanka and Origami. Just like the last time, it meant to give an opportunity to members who may have never thought they'd be interested in trying any of our traditional culture and for non-members to get to know us. Amazingly, our Tanka instructor, Chikako-san, discovered Michiko-san having a special talent in writing Tanka. Michiko-san is also "Tappitsu" - an expert in writing calligraphy - that I found during Calligraphy workshop a while ago. She claims she hasn't touched calligraphy brush for over 50 years. That shows her skill is true natural and very rare. Her quick Tanka will be added to the collection book at the next workshop according to Chikako-san.
The most excitement of today's gathering was, of course, the quiz game. Most of the today's questions were pretty tough ones as they were picked from the State's website about many unknown counties in New York State. Rosemarie got 9 of 10 correct and won the gold prize with a fruit basket, a bucket rather. The second prize with note pad & pen went to Suzumi-san, and the third Bronze prize of toilet paper Toyoo-san won had definitely made everyone laugh.
So, that was how our Spring Gathering went today. We sincerely hoped every each one of the participants enjoyed the day to celebrate the Spring.

前回ご案内しました様に今年から年総会は春になりました。そこで今日は2014年度予算の決算の結果報告をしました。時間を掛けて一生懸命数字をまとめて下さった会計係の篤子さんに感謝です。
今日は4名のゲストを含めた34名が集まって、ちょっと気分を変える為にパリせードセンターにある日本レストランに特別にｵｰﾀﾞｰした幕の内弁当を満悦しました。普段なかなか会えないメンバーの方々がいらして下さって良かったです。千佳子さんが｢雅楽多ショップ｣とユニークな名前をつけて下さったミニマーケットは千佳子さんのガラクタと素子さんのガレージから出たものでいっぱいでした。ガラクタと言えども他の人にとっては宝物になるかもしれないので馬鹿にはできません。気前良く売り上げから会に寄付をして下さったお二人に感謝感謝です。それからﾛｰｽﾞﾏﾘｰさんからも大人と子供用の着物の寄付がありました。有難うございます。
今回も茶道・華道・書道・短歌と折り紙のミニﾜｰｸｼｮｯﾌﾟﾃｰﾌﾞﾙを出しました。前回と同じく今まで日本のｶﾙﾁｬｰに触れたことのないメンバーに気軽にトライしてもらう為と、ゲストの方々にはこの会をもっと良く知ってもらうことが目的です。なんと短歌ｲﾝｽﾄﾗｸﾀｰの千佳子さんが道子さんにすばらしい短歌の素質があることを発見したそうです。実は以前の習字ﾜｰｸｼｮｯﾌﾟで道子さんが達筆だということを私も気づいていました。しかし本人曰く50年以上も筆を握ったことがなかったそうですからそれを考えるとおそらく持って生まれためずらしい才能なのだと思います。次回の短歌ﾜｰｸｼｮｯﾌﾟで小冊本に入れるそうです。
今日の一番のアトラクションはまたまたクイズゲームです。今回用意した質問の殆どがNY州のサイトから選んだ普段聞いたことのない他のカウンティに関するもので結構タフなものだったと思います。が、ローズマリーは10個の質問のうち9個当てて金賞のフルーツバスケット(実際はバケツでした)を獲得。銀賞のノートパッドとペンはｽｽﾞﾐさんに。それから銅賞のトイレットペーパーは東洋夫さんに渡り皆大笑いでした。
こんな感じで今日の春の集いを過ごしました。参加者の皆さんが春の喜びをいっしょに分かち合って楽しんで頂けたことを望みます。
