Event Description

Spirit of Beacon Festival

It's been so many years since first time Arts Mid-Hudson invited us to join this community festival, Spirit of Beacon Festival, as they are sponsoring ethnic groups so we could present cultural programs. This year, instead of Kabuki Face Painting as we did before, we brought Origami program so many could enjoy together with kids. We saw some decorations and ornaments much improved since last year. We had made some improvement on our own by providing a brand new tent since we'd experienced about 90 degrees temperature in the past. As always, a parade started at 1pm, with loud noise, laughter and faces with big smile.

Origami is becoming more popular, and we realize that we'd need to have better skill with more and new variety of origami shapes to be able to handle modern generations who could find Origami technique online. And, there he was, this "Origami Bob" suddenly appeared at our table and introduced himself to us. So I immediately invited (I said "hired") him, and in the next half hour or so he sat and taught two of our volunteers a few techniques. Right away you could tell he was not joking by looking at the way he was folding the paper - yes, just simply folding one corner of origami paper could prove he was very skilled and good. Thanks to Origami Bob for his kindness, and we look forward to seeing him at the next year's festival.

We can't express enough our sincere gratitude to Polly-san and Arts Mid-Hudson who organized and arranged many things for us to make sure we'd be able to do our job comfortably. The bottle of icy cold water never tasted better. And, of course, to our volunteer members who never complain about the temperature or anything but always, ALWAYS, offer their precious time and effort. THANK YOU!
