Calligraphy Workshop #2

4/17/16 Calligraphy Workshop No. 2 at Poughkeepsie Galleria Community Room:
It’s always nice to have some changes in life – so we had our new member, Asai-san, to lead the 2nd calligraphy workshop today. She not only can write well, extremely well, but also has high level of knowledge about technicality and history of calligraphy. It was indeed amazing to see her writing exact the way the samples AND she could read the old literature, such as Haiku poem which includes some Kanjis no longer used in this modern day. So, we figured, only way she would know what are written is from her long-term study in all the different ways of writing styles and techniques on characters. If there was any doctoral designation in Calligraphy, she would’ve been absolutely qualified for PhD.
There were 8 members participated today’s workshop. Each of us were to choose Otehon (sample) Asai-san brought, except Akiko-san, of course, as she again had her famous ancient Kanji booklet. It seems the 2 hours workshop was too short for us to absorb everything we learned today. It was, however, a wonderful experience to have her as our instructor. Thank you, Asai-san.
