Fundraising - KIMONO Sale

04/30/16 Kimono Sale Fund-raising

Everything we do for cultural program costs money. While we work hard to
manage funding and save as much as we can, it’d never be enough since more
and more program requests are coming in. So, the solution is simple - make
money. We came up an excellent idea when Nancy of Kyoto Kimono donated us
lots of Kimono last year - selling Kimono for fund raising.

It was held at Poughkeepsie Galleria’s community room starting at 11am. We
volunteers got up very early and started getting ready by wearing Kimono
while Nancy was driving her car carrying boxes of Kimono for 3 hrs in order
to get there by 9am. It was an all-day commitment but we had a very serious
goal in our mind so no one complained. At the end, it was pretty successful
- much better than we thought and we all were very happy with the result. We
learned Haori-jacket was most popular as it looked very cool on top of
western clothes. Today, we certainly helped West adapt East.

Thanks to our volunteers, Suzumi-san, Chikako-san, Atsuko-san and our new
members, Taeko-san and Yuriko-san, who all dedicated their time and energy
for such long hours. Also thanks to our members who came and contributed by
purchasing some items. Our highly appreciation goes to Nancy of Kyoto Kimono
who not just supplied products but also did PR with medias as well as many
other preparations including being a part of flyer making, and of course for
her generous donation. And last, our sincere thanks to Nancy’s brother,
Michael, who was kind enough to print our posters, lots of them, in
beautiful colors and send them to us from Florida, all in free! The fund we
made today will definitely help us for our future cultural programs. Thank
you, everyone!
