Ikebana Workshop #2

August 28: Ikebana Workshop No. 3

Our Ikebana Workshop series is quickly coming to an end!
On Sunday, August 28, we held our second to last class at the Poughkeepsie Galleria’s Community Room and welcomed the biggest turnout yet with 10 participants, including a few new members.

Our instructor Taeko-san opened with an explanation about “moribana” and shared photos of her previous ikebana arrangements as examples. She then encouraged us to try our hand at freestyle arrangements using the materials and supplies we each brought.

It was inspiring to see everyone quickly fall into their own creative rhythm, putting together different arrangements that incorporated everything from sunflowers and hydrangeas to pussy willows and Japanese maple.

Taeko-san shared tips—such as how to gently bend branches to control their direction—as she moved around to each person and provided constructive feedback.

With everyone feeling more familiar with each other, there was also plenty of friendly chit chat and encouragement between the members. This is one of the reasons why we continue to offer member events - to bring together people who might not otherwise have the chance to connect and get to know each other!

We hope to continue seeing more members participate in MHJCA events and are always open to suggestions for new programs.

The final Ikebana workshop will be on September 25. We will send out an announcement closer to the date.
