Event Description

Origami Workshop Milton Library

It was a rainy Thursday afternoon at the Milton Library for MHJCA's origami workshop on August 10, 2023. Participants of all ages learned about the ancient Japanese art of paper-folding and created several items under the patient guidance of our volunteers.

After learning about the story of Sadako and the 1,000 cranes, participants folded their own peace cranes. Other origami creations completed by the workshop participants included boxes and mountains!

It is really rewarding to be able to show children and adults the methods to form a 3-dimensional item from a simple square piece of paper, without scissors or glue! We have found that children are uniquely open to learning a new technique, and are quick to catch onto the intricate folding instructions. Older folks may take more time to learn, but the end result is perhaps even more rewarding.

MHJCA volunteers enjoyed giving the workshop at the beautiful Milton library, and we hope to collaborate on more workshops in the future.
