Flower Workshop Cold Spring

Oct. 1 Flower Workshop

The last flower workshop of the year was held in the afternoon of Sunday, October 1st. Mrs. Taeko Yanagida generously opened up her home for this class. The lesson took place in a living room where the windows opened up to a view of the mountains on a perfect autumn day.

This particular workshop was limited to those who had previously taken MHJCA’s flower arrangement classes. Five participants learned how to make centerpiece arrangements using seasonal flowers and floral foam, all of which were provided by the host.

In this type of flower arrangement, ferns and greenery are used first to cover the container. Then the flowers are arranged in a way to create a balanced view from all angles. As taught previously in the hand-tied bouquet class, all the leaves need to be removed from the flower stems. Everyone seemed very pleased with their arrangements at the end.

As a special treat for the last lesson of this series, we finished with an afternoon tea where everyone shared food that they had brought. The conversation between the group of women was so enjoyable that time flew by. Everyone took home their finished flower arrangements and various sweets. All in all, it was a refreshing day.

All of the students thanked Mrs. Yanagida for teaching the flower arranging class for the last two years. Thank you, Taeko!

MHJCA is not planning to hold any flower arrangement classes in 2024. However, if requested by enough members, we will look for an opportunity to hold the class again.
